Multimedia

Bob Ross was the host of the PBS show, "The Joy of Painting," in which he would offer instruction on how to paint oil landscapes. One of his many talents was painting trees at an astounding speed. That was my inspiration for this Maya animation. The animation itself was a project for a 3D modeling class I took, while at RIT. It was modeled and animated in Maya, the frames were then rendered and assembled in Adobe After Affects.
This was an animation project which required a piece of music to fit an animated story using static photography. This form of animation is often used in documentaries. I chose to use the song "Hey Julie," by Fountains of Wayne to animate a story about 1950s office workers who are stuck in the rut of their jobs.
A rotoscope is an animation technique that takes a video of a person's movement as a base for an animator to paint over. This helps create realistic movement. Rotoscopes were used in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the original Star Wars trilogy, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and even Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. This rotoscope is set to "Fashion Zombies" by the Aquabats.
Short animation set to the Coral's song "Skeleton Key." The animation is achieved by creating each "frame" in Photoshop and moving white pigment around with a smug tool. The frames were then assembled with After Effects, where it was paired up with music.
This was a project for an animation class in which we were to study walking cycles as well as other forms of movement. I chose walking, sneaking, skipping, and running. We were also challenged to create a seamless transition between the walk cycles.
This was an introduction project for a time based imaging class I took my freshman year of college. We were required to create a 10 second flash animation set to music. I had already had experience animating with flash, so my instructor challenged me to come up with something more. So, I sat down and created this music video for "The Cat with 2 Heads," by the Aquabats.
The “Bloomfield Bomber” was inspired by both my high school athletics team as well as the 1970s Batman television show. The character and filming style in the video were taken seriously, to create a feeling of believability to an otherwise ridiculous situation. The video was shot with a mini DV camera, and edited in Final Cut Pro
Hi, I'm Andrew Whitesell and I design things. I first discovered my passion for design and multimedia when I started coming up with ideas for Super Nintendo games back in the early ‘90s. Being interested in both computers and art, I created my first website in 1997. Six years later, I enrolled in the New Media program at RIT where my knowledge and skill base grew.
